festival branding
The Buffalo Cherry Blossom Festival is an annual celebration of cherry blossom trees blooming in the Japanese Garden at the Buffalo History Museum in Buffalo, NY. The event began in 2015 by groups including Buffalo Olmstead Parks, Friends of the Japanese Garden, and Japanese Group of Buffalo, and has gotten bigger every year.
The objective of the project is to increase event attendance, so I wanted to give a distinctive identity to the event itself. Logo and branding elements are inspired by Japanese family crest symbols (kamon) and minimal watercolor motifs, and are contrasted with bold typography. The event’s poster, a key visual, features hand painted watercolor flower petals as well as the Japanese characters for Cherry Blossom Festival.
